Why tween photography? It’s so easy to get caught up in life, in activities, in the whirlwind of raising a family. And I find that most parents are really good about scheduling portraits of their kids while the kids are babies and little kids. As they start to grow into tweens and teens, everyone gets busier and with acne, braces, and the awkward stage, most parents don’t think about doing portraits at 11 or 12, or they say “let’s wait until…” their skin clears up, or their braces are off, etc. But I would argue that this time for your child is so important to document. They’re growing, experimenting with attitudes and interests and friends, and one minute they might be brimming with confidence, while the next minute they’re insecure about every choice they make. Not only can a tween photography session make them feel good about themselves and boost their self-esteem, it’s fun and empowering. It’s a way to celebrate your child, their interests, and their style. Let them bring their sports gear or the instrument they play. Let them pick their outfits. Take them to get their hair styled the way they choose. Let them be themselves, because now more than ever, they need validation from you: you are special, and this time in your life is important.

Don’t get caught in the “let’s wait until” trap, because I promise you, it’ll end up being your child’s senior portraits that you’re scheduling next, and you’ll have missed years 10-17: a HUGE chunk of your baby’s childhood!

Even better, get together with your tween’s BFFs and do a Bestie Session! Call us at 504-421-4130 if you have any questions or want to get on our books!
